Hey you! Yes, you! Thanks for coming by to see me – drop me a line…
I’ve been writing my whole life. That’s a bit of a cliché, I know, but I swear it’s true. From when I could pick up a pencil I’ve been writing stories and in recent years I’ve been fortunate enough to write for a living. (A small living, but doing what I love). I’ve written everything from newsletters to brochures to promotional articles, interviewed difficult artists and amiable chefs, written letters to love and leave clients and come up with eight years’ worth of ways to tell people why white is still popular for weddings.
I’ve lived around the world – Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne, Sydney – but started life in Coventry, England. A few years ago I moved back to my native England and, once settled, started to write stories. When I’m not writing I like to walk, paint, and study karate. I have a couple of black belts (helpful when writing fight scenes) and a very nice husband (helpful when writing love scenes). Life has been a journey to get me to this point but I can honestly say I’ve lived it and am grateful for every day.

Okay, enough about me. Get reading!
Good onya Helen! Love the bit about ‘very nice husband.’ He suggested that I follow your work. The world DOES need people prepared to put heart into their thinking. XX Tim
Thanks Tim – he is rather nice 🙂 Miss seeing you xx
I came across your blog via Writers & Artists and it’s nice to know I’m not the only mum trying to get published! My two have also gone back to school, and it’s time to knuckle down to writing again. I’m also on the agent-submission round right now so fingers crossed for us both. Best of luck to you!
Thanks so much Melissa! Fingers crossed for you as well with the submissions, please let me know how it goes xx
Hello Helen! I’ve decided to read and follow 15 interesting and new blogs a day every day for the first month of 2015, and yours is today’s #6! Feel free to come visit me when you can at http://www.thatssojacob.wordpress.com, and follow if you like what you read. Happy new year and happy blogging!
Hi Jacob! That’s such a cool resolution 🙂 Thanks so much for choosing me as one of your blogs to follow, hope I can keep you interested over the coming year. I’ll be heading over to your blog soon to return the favour xx
Beautifully crafted writing. I’m going to enjoy my visits to your blog.
Thanks Steven, that’s so kind of you to say 🙂
You’re very welcome. 🙂
Hi Helen! I tagged you for a freestyle writing challenge. It’s totally fun, have a go at it! I’m sure you will come up with something actually interesting, as opposed to what happened when I made the attempt. 🙂 https://thesoundofwhathappens.wordpress.com/2015/05/10/free-style-writing-challenge/
Thanks Eilis! I’ll give it a go – I haven’t read yours yet but I’m sure it’s very interesting 🙂 Will let you know how it goes xx
Thanks for following my blog Helen and good to meet you. best wishes Sally
You’re very welcome Sally, and the same to you! xx
Hi Helen, I see you are coming along to the bloggers bash on August 1st, so wanted to say “hello”.
I look forward to meeting you there, and to reading your blog.
Best wishes,
Hugh
Thanks Hugh – hello to you too! Looking forward to reading your blog and seeing you on the 1st 🙂
Hey Helen, thanks for visiting my blog. Very intriguing title, ‘Journey to Ambeth.’ I like it a lot. Fair play to you. 🙂 Tony.
You’re very welcome, Tony – I found your link on Suzie’s blog party and had to come and visit. I’m looking forward to reading more of your philosophy 🙂 And I’m pleased you like my title – life really is a journey, isn’t it? 🙂
It is, and I have ‘coincidentally’ (not sure if I believe in that anymore) come across several blogs with titles that acknowledge that. Thats why I named mine like that 🙂 I’m glad you liked my article, I’m afraid I’m no genius (like Aristotle, Aquinas and co!) so I’m just repeating things I’ve learned haha.
Aren’t we all? Even the great minds were novices once 🙂
Thats true 🙂
Hi Helen,
I can’t work out if I can message you via WP, so apologies for posting this here, but I thought you might be interested in this, after our conversation last week 🙂 http://hodderscape.co.uk/open-submissions-the-guidelines/
Hope it’s helpful!
Fay xxx
Hi Fay, thanks so much for thinking of me! I’ve just been to the link and it looks very interesting, especially as I’m just putting a final polish to my book right now. So I’ll definitely be submitting – thanks so much. And if you do want to email me I’m at helenjoneswriting@gmail.com Hope all is going well with you and your writing, looking forward to your next update xx
Cool – so glad it’s useful :). Thanks for the email address! Good luck with the submission xxx
Thanks – will let you know how it goes xx
I really like your blog.
Thank you! That’s really nice of you to say. Looking forward to checking out your blog too.
Nice to meet you and I hope you like my blog.
Nice to meet you too 🙂

Of course. I should have realised by the name. My partner comes from south Wales, we met in Sydney, he lived and worked in Tazzie, Melbourne, Darwin, Brisbane … He did karate too (in Wales). Small world as usual.
Small world indeed! 🙂

Popping in to give you a quick cwtch & say hi, I look forward to reading your blogs.
Hi Lorraine! Thanks for popping in, and for the quick cwtch 🙂 Lovely to meet you, and look forward to reading your blog too x
Verycool! I have lived in England, and been to Scotland. Oddly, never been to Wales…
The only black belts I have are the ones that hold my jeans up, so I think I shall be extra nice and polite if our paths ever cross!
Thanks Rajiv 🙂 I can assure you, I’m very easy going, no need to worry haha.

Nice to meet you on Hugh’s blog. I look forward to reading some of your work (when I’m not overly engaged in writing my own).
Hi Charles 🙂 Nice to meet you too! Will be heading over to your blog to check out your work (and I know what you mean about the writing – I have so much less time to read than I used to). Thanks for coming by 🙂
Just finished Thousand Rooms and did reviews. I really enjoyed it. I would love it if you’d check out my site, Nutsrok.
Thanks so much for reading A Thousand Rooms, and for your lovely reviews – I’m so pleased you enjoyed the story 🙂
And your site is great! Heading over for another look now xx
Hi Helen! Happy to have found your blog! I love the layout, the style the content…everything! I’ve read some of your posts and I can’t wait to read more! Looking forward to following you 🙂

Hi Lisa! *waves* So pleased you found me too, thanks so much for following 🙂
My pleasure! 🙂
You have had quite a journey like a long and winding road, Helen. (Thanks to the Beatles for their insight.)
I think what you said about Wales being your “heart home” resonated with me. Even though not entirely related, my “byline” is: “Relationships reveal our hearts.” Don’t be thrown off with my light-hearted About page. . . . I am coming from our mutual friend and writer, D.G. Kaye. 🙂
It certainly has been long and winding, but I’m enjoying the journey so far 🙂 Thanks for coming across to see me, I’ll pop over to see you too 🙂
You had mentioned your path, which somehow depicted it to be not just an easy one. Mine was not always easy but it sure does help toake us appreciate “easy” days or “downhill” rides that aren’t climbing but sliding. 🙂
Oh, I’ve had ups and downs like most people, but I know I’ve been fortunate and try to focus on the positive where I can. I do believe we need darkness to help us see the light, and can totally relate to the idea of tough times making us appreciate when things are good. Happy Sunday to you 🙂
