Contact/About Me

Hey you! Yes, you! Thanks for coming by to see me – drop me a line…

I’ve been writing my whole life. That’s a bit of a cliché, I know, but I swear it’s true. From when I could pick up a pencil I’ve been writing stories and in recent years I’ve been fortunate enough to write for a living. (A small living, but doing what I love). I’ve written everything from newsletters to brochures to promotional articles, interviewed difficult artists and amiable chefs, written letters to love and leave clients and come up with eight years’ worth of ways to tell people why white is still popular for weddings.

I’ve lived around the world – Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne, Sydney – but started life in Coventry, England. A few years ago I moved back to my native England and, once settled, started to write stories. When I’m not writing I like to walk, paint, and study karate. I have a couple of black belts (helpful when writing fight scenes) and a very nice husband (helpful when writing love scenes). Life has been a journey to get me to this point but I can honestly say I’ve lived it and am grateful for every day.

You can contact me at helenjoneswriting@gmail.com, or simply use the contact form.

Okay, enough about me. Get reading!

  1. Good onya Helen! Love the bit about ‘very nice husband.’ He suggested that I follow your work. The world DOES need people prepared to put heart into their thinking. XX Tim

  2. I came across your blog via Writers & Artists and it’s nice to know I’m not the only mum trying to get published! My two have also gone back to school, and it’s time to knuckle down to writing again. I’m also on the agent-submission round right now so fingers crossed for us both. Best of luck to you!

    • Hi Jacob! That’s such a cool resolution 🙂 Thanks so much for choosing me as one of your blogs to follow, hope I can keep you interested over the coming year. I’ll be heading over to your blog soon to return the favour xx

    • You’re very welcome, Tony – I found your link on Suzie’s blog party and had to come and visit. I’m looking forward to reading more of your philosophy 🙂 And I’m pleased you like my title – life really is a journey, isn’t it? 🙂

  8. Of course. I should have realised by the name. My partner comes from south Wales, we met in Sydney, he lived and worked in Tazzie, Melbourne, Darwin, Brisbane … He did karate too (in Wales). Small world as usual.

  10. Verycool! I have lived in England, and been to Scotland. Oddly, never been to Wales…

The only black belts I have are the ones that hold my jeans up, so I think I shall be extra nice and polite if our paths ever cross!

    • Hi Charles 🙂 Nice to meet you too! Will be heading over to your blog to check out your work (and I know what you mean about the writing – I have so much less time to read than I used to). Thanks for coming by 🙂

    • Thanks so much for reading A Thousand Rooms, and for your lovely reviews – I’m so pleased you enjoyed the story 🙂
And your site is great! Heading over for another look now xx

  12. You have had quite a journey like a long and winding road, Helen. (Thanks to the Beatles for their insight.)
I think what you said about Wales being your “heart home” resonated with me. Even though not entirely related, my “byline” is: “Relationships reveal our hearts.” Don’t be thrown off with my light-hearted About page. . . . I am coming from our mutual friend and writer, D.G. Kaye. 🙂

      • You had mentioned your path, which somehow depicted it to be not just an easy one. Mine was not always easy but it sure does help toake us appreciate “easy” days or “downhill” rides that aren’t climbing but sliding. 🙂

      • Oh, I’ve had ups and downs like most people, but I know I’ve been fortunate and try to focus on the positive where I can. I do believe we need darkness to help us see the light, and can totally relate to the idea of tough times making us appreciate when things are good. Happy Sunday to you 🙂
