Sacha Black has set a nice little writing challenge – 52 Words in 52 Weeks. Each week, she gives us a prompt, and we have exactly 52 words, no more, no less, in which to respond. This week’s prompt is Toast, and here is my response:

Last night he had toasted her, declaring her the most beautiful woman in the room.

This morning she sat alone by blue water, hot tears falling. Toast crusts were scattered across the tiles, next to her shattered plate.

Their first fight as a married couple. She doubted it would be their last.
